The rest of the weekend passed in a blur and by Monday morning I was sicker than I’d ever been. I called out of work and managed to drag myself to my car. The drive to urgent care was a blur. I wasn’t even sure I’d walked in the door by myself. I remember the doctor asking me questions, but I had no clue what they were or what my answers were. I couldn’t remember much of anything after speaking to the doctor, not even leaving the clinic.

A raging headache and a mouth as dry as a desert were the only things that convinced me I wasn’t dead. I blinked my eyes several times to clear the fuzziness. One look around the room and I knew I wasn’t at home. In fact, I had no clue where I was. The room was plain. There was no other way to describe it. The walls were the sort of gray that seemed to fade into the background. There was nothing on them. In fact, the only items in the room were the bed I was on and a dresser. There wasn’t even a closet.

A bottle of water sat on the dresser and as thirsty as I was, I couldn’t bring myself to drink it. I had no clue where I was and the thought that it was drugged ran circles in my head. The only relief I had was that I was still in the clothes I’d worn to urgent care.

I scooted as far over in the bed as I could when I heard a key in the lock. The door swung open, and a familiar face smiled at me. My heart stopped as the man who attacked me in Dallas stepped into the room. Jason Bonnette.

“Hello, sweetheart.” His smile stretched across his face as my lungs froze in my chest. “I brought you something to eat.”

I shook my head so hard my headache roared back to the forefront. “Let me go.”

His smile immediately dropped, and his eyes narrowed as he stepped forward. He tossed a plate on the bed and spaghetti splattered everywhere. I swiped a hand across my face, refusing to take my eyes off of him.

“You ungrateful bitch. I protected you in Dallas and you ran from me. Now you complain about the food I prepared for you.” He snarled. His voice seemed lower and rougher.

“Protected me? You beat me in the middle of the street so badly I was in a coma. I’ve had surgery on my hand and wrist because of your protection. I want to leave. You can’t keep me here!” I screeched.

My head snapped to the side and my cheek burned. I hadn’t even seen him move but the pain in my face was evidence enough he’d slapped me. I tasted blood from where the inside of my cheek had smashed into my teeth and split. I cowered back into the wall behind me as Jason paced back and forth. His movements were jerky, and his chest heaved as he muttered under his breath.
